2024 Meetings and Events

Meetings on the second Tuesday of each month are free to attend for all members and only £5.00 for guests. All meetings take place in Burford Baptist Chapel excluding ones marked *

Hilary Dix said “I heard her speak and she was fascinating, speaking on the different types of pearls, how to look after them and how they differ in price, so everyone can treat themselves!  There will be an amazing array to look at and purchase if you wish. (Absolutely no pressure to buy)

12 Sept 23 – “Wellbeing with Bowen therapy” –  by  Gus de la Querra, Oxford Bowen

Gus does Bowen treatments at Witney Lakes. He can talk about some of revolutionary research into health with immunity and digestion, etc

The key to releasing tightness, soothing aches and freeing body is in the fascia. Fascia is the connective tissue that holds our bodies together, and when it becomes inflamed, tense or bound up it can lead to physical ailments and pain. Gus will talk about Bowen and how it works

8 Nov 22 – Furoshiki “The Art of Present Wrapping” – Larkswold Creative Workshops. If you, like us, hate the never ending waste of gift wrap (much of which cannot be recycled) and also have a small obsession with buying beautiful scarves or fine fabrics then Furoshiki is for you. If you don’t have an obsession buying silk scarves, then lucky for you…we do 🙂 This on trend Zero Waste craft not only looks divine, adds that little personal touch to your gift, but also gives your gift recipient wrap that can be worn or used time and time again. Cathy from Zusetsu Store will tell you all about the ancient Japanese history of Furoshiki & show you the knotting techniques for wrapping a variety of gifts

11 Oct 22 – Harvest Supper – Bring and share supper celebrating great food and friendship in the WI

13 Sept 22 – Oxford Of Morse – Alistair Lack. Alistair was an undergraduate at Oxford before embarking on a 30 year career in the BBC World Service. He now shares his love of Oxford as a certified tour guide and specialises in the history of Oxford’s many Colleges. Alistair’s depth knowledge of Oxford and it’s integral role in the Morse stories means this promises to be an interesting and educational evening.

9 Aug 22 – Art Scavenger Hunt – outdoor event in small teams, all welcome.

Event Tues 19 July – Visit to Pettifers Garden – either 10.30am or 2pm, time tbc. £10 members / £10 non members – please book and pay in May meeting. Pettifers is an English garden in the Oxfordshire village of Wardington. Since 1984, Gina Price has transformed Pettifers into one of the most influential gardens in England. Our private tour includes refreshments in the family kitchen.

10 May 22 – Wellbeing Evening – enjoy an evening of wellbeing tips and techniques

12 April 22 – Stone Sculptor– Martin Cash is a local sculptor and exhibits at Burford Garden Company. Martin designs and creates unique figurative and abstract forms.

8 February 2022 – Al Sylvester presents “Southern Reach”, his amazing adventure leading an RAF team supported to reach the South Pole

9 November 2021 – Talk on Asthall, Swinbrook and the Mitfords by local historian Stuart Norridge

12 October 2021 – Get Crafty with the Lechlade Craft Barn – Rosebowl competition evening

14 September 2021 – Harvest Supper celebration meal – with Mrs Bumbles artisan products

10 August 2021 – Medical Detection Dogs – meeting inside Warwick Hall, COVID regulations permitting. Arrive 7 for refreshments to start the presentation at 7.30pm. Members free, non members very welcome at £5.00 per person.

8 June 2021 – Drinks and nibbles in a member’s garden. Owing to COVID regulations numbers are limited so the event is initially open to members only.

11 May 2021 – Treasure Hunt around Burford. Meet at 6.15 at the Tolsey in Burford for a prompt 6.30 start. Please let Jane Arnell gjaarnell@icloud.com if you would like to come along. Free to members, non members £4.50.
